Elementary School Newsletter - January 9, 2020

Dear Parents and Students,

Here is to a warm welcome to all of our elementary school students in the New Year.
We are thrilled to see everyone back in our halls looking very well rested (and tanned!) We sincerely hope each and every one of you enjoyed a restful and joyful Winter Holiday with your family and friends. We welcome you back to UMCA with a strong fresh start. May the new year of 2020 bring many new successful reasons to celebrate! We have an exciting second term planned for our students. Wishing each of you much joy, success, and special outcomes this term!

Russian Show

Our students were working very hard with their Russian teachers on a show which they are very much looking forward to perform to you. Please see below the dates and times of each grade.

January 14- Russian Winter Show Grade 5 @4:00pm (pay attention to the change of date)

January 15- Russian Winter Show Grade 3 @4:00pm 

January 17- Russian Winter Show Grade 2 @4:00pm (pay attention to change of date)

January 21- Russian Winter Show Grade 4 @4:00pm

January 29- Russian Winter Show Grade 1 @4:00pm

Highlands Nordic Ski Trip

UMCA is very excited to let you know that on Friday, January 17th, grades 3-10 will go on a cross-country ski trip and snow-shoe trip to Highlands Nordic Resort!

We will leave school at 8:45am, and we'll be back at 5:30pm. Please be on time. There will be no school on this day for grades 3-10. If your child can't attend this trip, please let Ms. Suzana or Ms. Ariela know.

For grades 1 and 2 regular schedule will take place.

What to Bring?

The equipment and a Hot Chocolate will be provided.

Bring lunch and snack and a few dollars if you wish to buy something from the Cafetria.

Wear a jacket that is water proof and proper for ski (not a fabric jacket that might get wet). Dressing up in layers is recommended.

Waterproof gloves (no wool/fabric gloves)

Neck warmer (no scarf)

A hat

Waterproof boots.

Extra socks (very important!)

Please label EVERYTHING as kids tend to lose stuff.

 This trip is part of the Celebrations fee.

Final Unit Test

On the last couple of weeks of this month we will have the Final Unit Tests. If from some reason you are not able to attend please speak with Ms. Suzana for accommodation.

Second Term

The second term will start on February 3rd.

Report Cards

Report cards will be handed on February 7th.

Public Skating

Please note that on Friday, January 24th, we will have Public Skating. Don't forget to bring your child's skating equipment (skates, helmet, snow pants and gloves).

Blue Mountain Trip
UMCA is happy to invite grades 5, 6, 7 and High School students to the Blue Mountain Resort on January 30-31 (one night sleepover). 

Please see the fees breakdown: transportation $70.00, hotel $60.00 (based on 4 people per room), Ski Lift Ticket $100.00 (for both days), Ski Rental Package $70.00 (for both days). Total Ski Trip $300.00. Total Ski Trip without Rentals $230.00. For those who don’t ski, or look for a cheaper option, there will be an option to do cross-country ski. The fee for cross-country is $30 per day for ski boots + ski. Food is not included.

No high school classes on these days.

March Break

March break will be from March 16 to March 20, 2020. The school will be open for Educational Activities (hours of operation 8:00am – 6:00pm).

Homework

We are back to regular schedule, and every week your child will receive homework. Please make sure you are checking our website regularly to see our teachers’ homework postings, as well as the Grade Book. Checking both regularly will keep you up to date with your child’s progress and assignments.
