About High School

UMCA is a privately-owned secondary school aiming to give students an innovative and personalized chance at learning! We are an Ontario Ministry of Education-inspected and credited secondary school that goes beyond the provincial expectations of learning.

For students that are wondering about their future in a university or college program, UMCA Rich Tree Academy offers you the opportunity to expand on your learning skills. We offer small class sizes, individualized attention, and both virtual and in-person courses. Our students have access to the Schwartz Reisman Center where they can pair extracurricular athletics with their academic needs.

We also offer courses for part-time students who are looking to expand their academic excellence. At UMCA, our priority is making sure that our students are learning to their full potential by having teachers that are OCT-qualified in their teaching fields. For the past 18 years we have had over 250 students graduate from our school and go onwards to successful undergraduate and graduate programs at over 15 Canadian universities.

Graduation Requirement

18 Compulsory Credits

In order to graduate with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, a student must earn 30 credits, 18 of which are compulsory. These credits are evenly spaced out amongst four years and allow you to explore elective credits as per your interest.

OSSLT

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) measures whether students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. Successful completion of the literacy test is one of the requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. All students across the province write this test on the same date, usually in late March each year.

40 Community Hours

The community involvement requirement is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop awareness and understanding about civic responsibility. They can actively participate in supporting and strengthening their communities. It also provides the opportunity for students to learn more about themselves and possible career opportunities. Students can start accumulating hours in the summer before entering Grade 9.
