Elementary School Newsletter – November 13, 2020

Dear Parents and Students,

Pickup Procedure

We wish to thank all parents for their support and help during pickup time. Please note that when you send someone else to pick up your child, you must notify us by either text, phone or email. Due to high volume of text messages during pickup time, we are unable to go outside and check ID’s. We are calling a child only once we receive the notification from the parent that the person is waiting outside.

Parents Logging in to Children’s UMCA Accounts

We wish to emphasize once again how important it is for parents to regularly log in to their children’s UMCA account and check all subject pages and messages. Teachers are regularly using the Moodle to post homework, unit test marks, and personal messages, and if you make it a habit to check the Moodle at least once a week, you will be updated with your child’s academic progress. If you do not know how to log in, please contact us, and we will be happy to help.

Sharing the Caring Project

Help us support the incredible nurses, doctors and healthcare teams who have been working tirelessly to get us through the COVID-19 crisis. Let us offer free coffee to first responders and healthcare workers who are working very long hours on the frontlines of this pandemic and making incredible sacrifices on behalf of all of us. Mme. Zahra is working with our grade 1, 2 and 3 students on a beautiful project “Sharing the Caring”. We are asking each student who is interested in participating, to create a special artwork, a coffee mug with a ”messages of gratitude and encouragement“ and bring for Monday, November 16, a minimum $2 (Mme. Zahra will collect which will be collected and would purchase fresh coffee to our heroes. This is something simple we can do to show we appreciate them and give them the energy and refreshment they need to keep working.

Operation Sock Monkey

The holidays are just around the corner, and we, at UMCA want to show our gratitude by helping those in need. As part of our complimentary extracurricular activities, as of next week, we will start with our Operation Sock Monkey. Our grades 3, 4 and 5 will create monkeys out of socks in a workshop that is not only fun and creative, but teaches the sewing skills, with the giving and caring goal in mind. The children will create 2 monkeys, one which they can keep for themselves, and the other one will be donated. We will start next week with the grades 3-5, and the week after grades 6-8.

Parent’s Signature on Tests

Starting immediately, all tests that are sent home with the students require parents’ signature. We hope that this new procedure will keep parents more up to date regarding their children’s academic progress, and no surprises will await them once report cards are handed out. Once your child hands out the test to you, we recommend going through it, discuss it with your child, and then sign it.

Student’s Record Update

We are updating the academic records of all our students, and we kindly ask you to send us a copy of your child’s passport or birth certificate (thus we prevent any mistakes in the spelling of your child in the report card and all school’s documents). This information is confidential and needs to be sent to sara@umca.ca.

Some parents informed us that their child lost clothing items. Please see if your child brought home items that do not belong to them, we kindly ask you to send them back to school.
